Mini Section were fine ambassadors for our borough!

A team ten-year-old boys from Coleraine Rugby Club's Mini section travelled to the Cote d'Azur in France earlier this month to compete in the Six Fours Les Plages International Rugby Tournament.

The Sandel Lodge team achieved a commendable sixth place out of 20 competing teams in their age group in what was a first ever international event for the Mini Section.

Their achievement is all the greater considering that the eleven-strong squad had to contend with long travelling times, differing rules and bigger opponents.

And such was their popularity during the tournament that several other European teams have expressed great interest in coming to Northern Ireland to compete in what could be Coleraine's first ever 'Six Nations Rugby Tournament'.

The boys and their dedicated coaches, led by Keith Elliott, were wonderful ambassadors for the borough and it's expected that the mayor of Coleraine, councillor David Barbour, will be holding a reception in their honour shortly.

Meanwhile the boys await with keen anticipation the return matches with many newly acquired friends from several European countries.
