More success for young Karate Kids from Zanshin NI

Laura Diamond and Yasar Bahar from the Zanshin Shotokan Karate Club travelled to Scotland over the weekend with their families and Chief Instructor Sensei Terry Geddis, 5th Dan KUGB to attempt their Dan Grades (Black belt and above levels).

Yasar Bahar from Ballysally, Coleraine aged only 8 years old is the youngest student in Ireland to receive his Black Belt. This is a fantastic achievement for a child so young.

Yasar has demonstrated sheer determination and skill to obtain this grade. It is the same process for an adult – no difference. Yasar was tested for over 45 minutes in kata (series of movements) and kumite (free style fighting).

Yasar receives great support from his mum who ensures he never misses a class and a big thank to another Club Instructor Sensei Lisa Brown who assisted in preparing him for his Grading. Sensei Lisa will herself be travelling to Chesterfield within the next two weeks to attempt her 4th Dan.

Laura Diamond aged 14 from Bellaghy achieved the Grade of 2nd Dan. Laura has progressed up the grades very quickly and is one of our most dedicated members. It’s a big year for Laura as she has progressed from the Junior Squad to the Senior Squad. Laura has competed for Northern Ireland all over and will now compete at European Level in November in Greece. This weekend Laura will compete in Ardee followed by Birmingham then onto Liverpool.
