Ravenhill heartache for fourths

COLERAINE Fourths suffered heartache at Ravenhill when they lost out to a well-drilled Grosvenor Seconds in the final of the Forster Cup last Saturday.

The Belfast side were only eight points in front at the break but in the second half they turned on the pressure with Andy Moore running in three tries, and a final score line of 27-0 made sure that the silverware went home to Grosvenor.

There was no score for the first 27 minutes as both sides settled in and both saw promising scoring opportunities go astray. Grosvenor got the first points when they scored directly from a five metre scrum. The conversion attempt was missed.

Coleraine captain George Neely left the pitch with a hand injury with ten minutes to go, replaced by Adam Parke, who immediately made his presence felt. Coleraine went on the offensive but could find no way through the defence.

In the last minute of the half Grosvenor were on the attack and took advantage of a penalty to claim three points from the Coleraine 22, leaving the score at the break 8-0 to the Belfast men.

On the restart Grosvenor went down to 14 men after they obstructed play. Adam Parke was inches wide with the resulting kick for Coleraine but they were unable to press home their one man advantage.

With seven minutes gone, Grosvenor took full advantage of an overlap on the wing to score a converted try in the corner.

Grosvenor missed two penalty opportunities before they struck again on 22 minutes, slipping past the defence and into the corner for an unconverted try.

Coleraine came back into the reckoning with a concerted attack but yet again they were not able to get over the line.

As injury time began Grosvenor's Andy Moore made a great break on the wing, using the overlap, to score his third try of the day. The conversion brought the final tally to 27-0 for Grosvenor.

A short time later the University of Ulster, Coleraine took on Grosvenor First XV in the final of the Gordon West Cup. Their win completed a great day for their club but brought no success for either Coleraine side.
