Reggie soars high after Eagle at Bushfoot

An eagle may be a rare sight along the north coast; but last week sharp shooter and Low Section winner Reggie Dallas, playing off an eleven handicap, bagged this special bird with a superb' two' at the 293 yard third hole par four third hole at Bushfoot Golf Club.

It was a great start to the season as members of the Shuttlecock Golf Society turned out in force in cool windy conditions to tackle the scenic Bushfoot course.

Inspired by his good fortune Reggie added three more pars to complete the front nine with 19 points. Four pars on the back nine with just one “ding” resulting from an over hit shot at the par three 11th hole gave Reggie a winning total of 37 points nudging Andrew Stanton into the runner up spot with a commendable score of 36.

Interestingly, Andrew also flexed his muscles and drove the green at the third hole: the difference Reggie holed out from fifteen feet whilst Andrew was unfortunate to require two putts from five feet.

In the High Section Paul McIlwaine, playing off a 23, gained his first outing win since joining the society with a handsome 41 points. Paul drove and putted exceptionally well on tricky greens to reach the turn with 19 points. However, the best was yet to come and it came in the form of a birdie three at the par four 13th hole. Paul added a further 22 points to his score on the back nine, leaving him three points ahead of his nearest rival the unfortunate Bob Cummings who finished on the runner up spot with an excellent score of 38 points.

Bob must feel that the golfing “gods” or perhaps the committee are plotting against him. Last year his 38 point score at Roe Park would have been enough to win the High Section except that Bob had been promoted to the Low Section. This year, now that Bob is back in the High Section his score would have been good enough to win the Low Section. At least on this form it should not be long before Bob achieves his long awaited and deserved win.

In the “twos” competition Reggie Dallas scooped the kitty.

The next outing will be held at Castlerock Golf Club on Thursday 19th May with tee off times between 2.40pm and 3.40pm.
