'˜Stocky' wins double bronze at Worlds

Local pool player Raymond Stockman is celebrating again after bagging another couple of medals for his collection.

Raymond was one of nine local players who took part in the 2016 Blackball International World Pool Championships in Killarney from October 11-16.

Along with Raymond, Billy Moore, Lee Caulfield, Tommy Morrow, Ricky Clyde, James Nesbitt, Willie Eakin, Adam Freeburn and Julie Henderson all played in five different team competitions for Team NI at the Gleneagle Hotel venue.

Competing in the Masters section Raymond won bronze in the team event, as Northern Ireland finished just behind hosts Ireland and England.

The local lads fought back from 11-6 down to win their third place play-off game 13-12.

Raymond added another bronze as he also finished third in the Masters Individuals.

“It was a hard fought third place finish in both the singles and team,” Raymond told Times Sport.

“It was my first time playing at the Worlds and I had a fantastic week.

“To come home with two bronze medals was brilliant.

“I was delighted to see my teammates Stephen Johnston and Davy Drysdale winning the Masters Doubles, and Davy winning the Individual title too.”

It wass the first time Ireland hosted the World Championships which attracted the best pool players from across the world.

Fellow Coleraine player Julie Henderson also won bronze in the Ladies team event.
