Trevor triumphant at Gracehill
In the first of the voucher competitions Trevor Milliken, playing off seven, was triumphant in Division One with 34 points over the sixteen holes in play.
With play commencing at the tenth hole Trevor got of to a steady yet mediocre start. However, after four holes the old swing was well and truly loosened up and Trevor played the next nine in level par producing an excellent round, which belied his years.
Richard Bell, playing off eleven, picked up second prize with 34 points. Richard demonstrated some fine scoring as he scrambled and caressed his little white ball around the hazardous fairways of Gracehill, he even emphasised his talent and ability with birdies at two and fifteen. A point further back and securing third place was Charles Hamill playing off fourteen.
In Division Two Kenny Dunlop, playing off seventeen, produced an educated performance taking the top prize with 36 points. After a poor start Kenny’s report card might have read - ‘could try harder’ and ‘Kenneth is too easily distracted’.
However after these initial setbacks Kenny then ‘showed initiative’ and ‘gained self-confidence’ as he played holes fourteen to seventeen in two under par! Stuarty Nicholl, playing off seventeen, showed his true pedigree and finesse for the game scoring 33 points to collected second prize. With an assortment of golfing dexterity and adroitness on display, Stuarty just did enough to relegate his playing partner Trevor Kane (20) into third place courtesy of countback. Looks like Trevor will have to play in Stuarty’s shadow for a little longer. Ian Morrison was the fortunate recipient of the gross prize.
Sunday saw David Ussher (16) take the chequered flag with a stupendous 41 points. After a composed front nine David finished his round with superior style playing the last five holes in an impressive one over par. Also on the podium in second spot was Bert Chambers (17) with 40 points. With some conflicting scoring returns for the front nine Bert made the turn with a decision to make - either defend or attack?
Well anyone who has ever played with Bert will know there is only one answer – ATTACK! With that in mind he certainly did, playing the last three holes in an outstanding one under par! Gary Byers, playing off twenty one, secured third place with 38 points. Robert McNeill was back to winning ways taking the gross prize with a superlative round of 73.
