POOL: 147 Singles champion favourite for Festival success

FIVE-times winner Davy Tosh will again be the man to beat when the 147 Singles breaks off at the 2009 Coleraine Bass Pool League Festival of Pool at the Lodge Hotel next week.

Davy's form has been spot on in the run up to Coleraine's blue riband individuals event.

Certainly the McNulty's man has the skills and experience to chalk up an amazing sixth tournament success.

One of his main challengers, however, will be Dervock dynamo Tommy Morrow.

Tommy will be aiming to lift the title for a second time and his open style of attacking pool make him one of the front runners when the competition begins on Saturday, February 28.

Another Dervock challenger will be Gavin Patton who has been the model of consistency this season who has been taking his opportunities with great efficiency.

Last year's beaten finalist, Neville Smyth, could go one better this time around.

It took an outstanding performance by Davy Tosh to beat him 12 months ago but Neville possesses all the skills and potential to lift the trophy.

Jimmy Moore also lost in last year's semis and, as everyone knows, he has the raw potting ability to shock the big guns and reach the latter stages again.

Beaten finalist in 2007, Raymond Baxter, has hit a good vein of form recently and if he plays to his best can certainly look forward to a major challenge.

Young talent, Mark Hutchison, has been working hard on his game and he has the natural talent and potting prowess to trouble anyone in the competition.

One of the league's best players, Damien Reid, has never made the final but there's little doubt that he has all the shots and experience to put that right.

Others who can make an impact this year include Lee Hull, Darren McColgan, Steven Doey, Andy Park, Russell Kirkpatrick, Steven McIlreavy, Lee Caulfield, Gary McCafferty and John McAllister.

With a list like that it shows that this year's competition could be the most open ever. But everyone will be out to beat Davy Tosh and stop him chalking up a sixth success.

The competition will come to a climax with the final at 1pm on Sunday, March 1.
