POOL: Morrow goes close at the NI Championships as Forge celebrate

PLAYERS from the Coleraine Pool League were well represented at the recent Northern Ireland Individual Championships at the Park Plaza Hotel in Antrim.

The Forge Bar's Lee Hull reached the last eight, including a great victory over Northern Ireland international Sam Newell on the way.

But the League's best performer on the day was Tommy Morrow who reached the semi finals.

Tommy, who plays for the Sperrin, was in great form. He defeated fellow Coleraine League player Raymond Baxter, before taking out Northern Ireland under 21 champion Conor Byrne.

But his most impressive scalp was in the quarter finals where he played some excellent pool to defeat defending champion Rab Fee.

Unfortunately, for Tommy, he came up against former Coleraine singles champion Neil McKelvey in his semi final, and Neil was in great form on the day, the Larne man going on to take the title.

* Some more news in relation to our report last week on Forge's impressive victory at the Northern Ireland Super 7s tournament.

Forge came up against the much fancied Antrim Allstars, a team including top 16 professional snooker player Mark Allen, as well as the 2009 NI Pool champion Rab Fee in the semi-finals.

Despite these big names, they were no match for Forge, who opened up a 6-1 lead in the first session and never looked back sealing a 11-5 success for their place in the final.

There they met the Castle from Carrick. Again Forge got off to a blistering start in the first session and it wasn't long before Billy Moore sunk the winning black for a 11-4 success and to crown the Coleraine men Northern Ireland champions.

Congratulations to the Forge boys, captained by Willie Eakin - Lee Hull, Lee Caulfield, Ady Toner, Raymond Baxter, Billy Moore, Aaron Moffatt, Tommy Morrow and Marc Hutchinson
