SURGING: Plenty of surf action this weekend
SURF'S up at East Strand beach, Portrush this weekend for the Circle One Irish National Surfing Championships.
Water sports enthusiasts, keen surfers and regular beach goers are in for a feast of spectacular surfing during the two day event, kindly sponsored by Ocean Warriors, Monster Energy Drinks and proudly hosted by Coleraine Borough Council at their purpose built North Coast Water Sports Centre at East Strand.
Organisers for the surf spectacular are expecting in excess of one hundred competitors, all of whom will be hoping to catch plenty of 'sweet swell'.
Competitive categories are for both male and females and include stand up and paddle boarding (new to competition - and a unique sport), Open Surf; Ladies Surf, Body Boarding Men, Body Boarding Ladies, Long Board, Senior Surfers (25 -35 years), and Masters Surfing (35 years and over). Competitions get underway each day at approximately 9am and prize giving will be on Sunday at 4pm.
Sunday will see a huge influx of old style VW Campervans to celebrate the iconic vehicle that has a longstanding association with surfing.
A number of authentic vans and Beetle cars will gather between 12pm to 4pm to East Strand car park; a spectacle not to be missed.
