801 needed to break world record

The School is launching a new fundraising and event initiative called the Dalriada 2020 Vision on Saturday, May 28th and plan on starting it off with a bang by breaking the Guinness World Record for the largest human currency symbol.

The current record sits at 800 people who formed a Rupee in India in 2015, so 801 people will see to it that Ballymoney sets a brand new one.

Headmaster of Dalriada School, Tom Skelton, says he is hopeful that people in Ballymoney will be keen to join together in for a fun morning of record breaking.

“With the launch of the school’s new 2020 Vision imminent, we thought that a great way to showcase what that vision will be all about would be to break a world record.

“As it turns out, the record for the largest human currency symbol was achievable and also fit in really well in terms of launching a fundraising scheme.

“The Dalriada 2020 Vision will set out to ensure that fundraising and events play a large role within the school for the next four years and beyond.

“It is essential for our students that upcoming efforts to raise funds for numerous aspects of school life are supported. For example, our chamber choir won BBC Radio Ulster’s senior School Choir of the year; our Bar Mock team are British Champions, our First XV rugby team advanced to the semi-finals of the School’s Cup this year and our senior girls’ volleyball team were Irish National runners-up.”

Mr Skelton continued: “Our extra-curricular activities are not funded by government and rely entirely on voluntary support. Without the generosity of the community and the fundraising efforts undertaken by the school pupils, staff parents and friends, we would not be able to celebrate fantastic achievements like these. Our extra-curricular activities are thriving and we want to ensure that they do so for years to come.

“So what we hope to do with the World Record Attempt is to have some fun, get the whole community involved and showcase Ballymoney at the same time.”

Dalriada School playing fields will be the venue should you wish to take part in this World Record attempt on Saturday, May 28. Keen record breakers are asked to arrive at the school between 10am and 10:30 am for registration.
