Image-maker Kris is picture perfect for the third occasion

North Antrim photographer Kris Dickson set a new benchmark of excellence with his second hat-trick of titles in twelve months at The British Insitute of Professional Photography Northern Ireland Awards.

The Ballymoney-based photographer was named the BIPP Classical Wedding Photographer of the Year, BIPP Modern Wedding Photographer of the Year and BIPP Overall Wedding Photographer of the Year for 2016 at the gala evening held in the New Forge Lane Country Club, Belfast, last Monday evening.

And what was even more remarkable for the hugely talened 37-year-old lensman was that he completely swept the boards by scooping first, second and third in ALL THREE categories.

“What can I say? I’m thrilled and delighted,” said Kris, whose stunning portfolio of entries blew away the formdiable Welsh judge, photographer Mark Cleghorn.

“Once again I’m overwhelmed to have won these prestigious titles and wish to thank The British Insitute of Professional Photography for honouring me in such a comprehensive manner.”

Kris was particularly pleased to have impressed Cleghorn - a 17-time Kodak Gold Award winner and one of the UK’s leading portrait and wedding photographers - with perhaps one of his best images ever.

He explained: “Images are marked down from a hundred and one of them got a score of 96, which is one of the highest I’ve ever had.

“Mark Cleghorn is very direct and honest in his judging so to have won all three categories is something I’m very proud of.”

The overall winner of BIPP Northern Ireland Wedding Photographer of the Year was the dark image of a bride with her head down getting out of camper van. The striking photograph also won Classical Wedding Photographer of the Year category.

The image of the bride and groom at water won BIPP Modern Wedding Photographer of the Year and scored 96 marks out of 100. Both images were captured at Galgorm Resort and Spa in Ballymena.

Kris is always the first to thank the many couples with whom he shares their wedding day.

“For me it is always about making the couple happy with the photographs of their special day. And so it’s a wonderful recognition of my work when they receive wonderful plaudits such as these.”

At last year’s awards Kris wowed highly respected judge Vincent O’Byrne to carry off the BIPP Northern Ireland Photographer of the Year, BIPP Northern Ireland Wedding Photographer of the Year and BIPP Northern Ireland Contemporary Wedding Photographer of the Year accolades.

Kris - who is married to Emma and has two sons Blake and Kasper - set up his own studio at his Ballymoney home in September 2013 and is a four-time winner of the UK Wedding Photographer of the Year as well as the UK Master Photographer of the Year and British Professional Photographer of the Year.
