Rodd set to amaze with TV show

Coleraine magician, Rodd Hogg, says he hope people will be '˜entertained and amazed' when his first TV show goes out on Sky at the end of the month.

‘The Irish Magician’ follows Rodd as he wows audiences across the British Isles with his inimitable brand of close-up magic and illusions.

The six-part series, filmed and produced by Donegal-based Jacksonsmediatv, begins on the Irish TV channel (Sky 191) from Thursday, June 30 at 8.30pm.

The half hour shows will be screened each week until August 4 and also repeated every Saturday night at 10pm.

Rodd told the Times this week: “It’s great that the show is going out soon so I hope as many people as possible tune in.

“I hope that everyone who does will be entertained and amazed by my magic.”

The series was filmed in Liverpool, Co Kerry, Dublin, Northern Ireland, Manchester and London.

Rodd says: “For the final two shows I did some magic for Paddy Crerand at Old Trafford as well as for the former Coronation Street actor, Charlie Lawson.

“In London I also had the great pleasure of meeting Coleraine actress Jayne Wisener, performed some street magic in Leicester Square and also end up performing in the world famous Magic Circle.”

The early shows in the series show Rodd filmed at Dick Mack’s pub in Dingle and also at the Cavern Club in Liverpool.

The series explores a number of different themes of his mesmerising craft - close up magic, hypnosis and the power of suggestion, sleight of hand, and even pickpocketing.

Rodd became a member of of The Magic Circle in May two years ago, joining the likes of Prince Charles, Dynamo and Nigel Mansell among its hallowed ranks.

He also stunned a crowd of around 200 onlookers and became a Youtube sensation with a Harry Houdini-inspired underwater escape from handcuffs in Portrush.

He also starred alongside top comedian Jason Manford at a corporate dinner in Blenheim Palace.

The 36-year-old entertainer is due to play to a packed audience at the Lodge Hotel on Thursday, June 23.

“The Irish Magician” Show will raise money for Coleraine Caring Caretaker Davy Boyle’s charities.
