ARTISTS and arts-related groups in the Coleraine Borough area should be aware that a financial helping hand is available for their projects in the shape of Coleraine Borough Arts Committee.

The committee is inviting applications from artists in the borough at three points in the year ahead, and the next deadline for applications is on November 1st.

In the past, the committee – which is supported by Coleraine Borough Council has provided assistance for artists in all kinds of disciplines, including visual artists, writers, musicians, filmmakers and actors.

“The committee seeks to encourage the arts and creative activity for everyone living in or visiting the borough of Coleraine,’ explains Malcolm Murchison, secretary of the committee.

“One way this is achieved is by offering financial assistance to local groups and individuals to develop local arts activity. The committee has a modest budget to allocate for this purpose and consequently awards usually range between £50 and £500, with lower sums being more typical.”

Application forms – complete with guidance notes, are downloadable from the Flowerfield Arts Centre website at www.flowerfield.org – there’s a link to the committee’s page on the home page of the website.

You can also request an application form by e-mailing Flowerfield Arts Centre on info@flowerfield.org, or by ringing the centre on (028) 7083 1400. All completed forms must be returned to the committee at Flowerfield Arts Centre before November 1.

If you fancy a cool evening of classics from the Great American Songbook, Flowerfield is the place to be on Thursday October 16 as Fiona Trotter and an all-star band offer An Evening with Ella at 8pm.

Tickets for the show are priced at only £10, and the auditorium at Flowerfield will be laid out cabaret style, with tables and chairs. Patrons are invited to bring their own bottle.
