Underneath the Tree: 12 Christmas stories was published by community organisation, Sesheta, in November 2020 and to date, has raised £1,086.94.

It includes stories from writers based in the Causeway Coast & Glens area and further afield and was co-edited by Bushmills author Claire Savage and Newtownards author Kelly Creighton. All proceeds from the anthology have been donated to the World of Owls (WOOs) NI in Randalstown and the Simon Community NI, with each charity presented with a cheque for more than £500.

Claire said it was great to have been part of a project which supported both the creative and charity sectors, particularly given the year 2020 turned out to be. “It provided much-needed support to the writers involved, who all received payment for their stories, as well as to the WOOs and Simon Community, so I’m very glad the Arts Council NI funded our project and that it was so well-received.”

Kelly added: “It gives me great pleasure that Sesheta can support two wonderful charities with the proceeds made by Underneath the Tree. I would like to thank everyone who supported the anthology and purchased a copy.”

Mike Gibb from the World of Owls said: “World of Owls would like to wholeheartedly thank our long-term literary friend Claire Savage and her colleague Kelly Creighton for their fantastic donation of over £500. Thank you and to all the authors of the 12 stories contained in this wonderful Christmas book.”

Ciaran Corr, communications manager at the Simon Community NI added: “We were delighted that Sesheta selected us as one of the lucky charities to benefit from the sales of this book. Being involved in such a unique and exciting project helped our charity raise awareness around the issue of homelessness and we would like to thank Claire, Kelly and all the authors who loaned their skills, talent and time.”
