Domino’s is serving up long-awaited vegan pizzas in the UK - here are the toppings

Domino’s has announced the launch of its first plant-based vegan pizza in 46 stores across the UK and Ireland, as part of a new trial.

The takeaway pizza chain will now be offering a pizza made with a vegan dough, as well as vegan-friendly cheese. The new arrivals to the menu are set to compete with other major takeaway chains, such as Pizza Hut, which already offer vegan options.

What are the vegan options?

The two new flavours are Vegan Margherita and Vegan Vegi Supreme, and both come topped with a range of fresh vegetables, such as tomatoes, green and red peppers, onions, sweetcorn, mushrooms and jalapeño peppers.

Customers will also be able to customise their pizzas with any vegan-friendly topping they like.

The vegan  range will be available for  medium size pizzas and will be complemented by Domino’s vegan-friendly BBQ dip. The vegan options will be priced the same as non-vegan medium pizzas.

‘No compromises’ on taste

The chain has been working on its vegan recipe for some time, starting with a trial last year.

However, this trial failed the taste test, revealing issues with the dough, and the food innovation crew in Domino’s test kitchen have since been making improvements to the recipe before its launch this month.

Aman Prasher, Domino’s Chief Vegan Dough Developer said, “Our vegan offering has been a while coming because we’re determined to make sure it’s full of our iconic Domino’s flavour.

“We might not be first but we’re always the best, no compromises. Our dedicated pizza chefs are incredibly excited for our fans to try this new and improved latest dough as we believe we’ve nailed it.

Will the range be available nationwide?

Prasher also revealed that the vegan range could soon be rolled out across the UK, if it proves popular with customers. However a date for that is not yet known.

If you are a strict vegan, be warned that the chain has said that while its pizzas are made to avoid any cross-contamination, it sources some ingredients from factories where animal products are made, and therefore there is no guarantee that contamination with meat products won't happen.
