A Ballintoy couple have been crowned the winners of the Housing Executive’s Best Kept competition in the Causeway region.
Green-fingered gardening enthusiasts Margaret and Joseph Reid beat off competition from other residents in the Moyle, Ballymoney, Coleraine and Limavady districts to take first prize.
The couple scooped first prize in their area before being named the overall winner of the Best Kept Garden.
Mrs Reid said: “We were delighted to hear that we had won first prize in the competition but it came as a great surprise to learn that we had won the overall prize in the Causeway area. The prize of a wheelbarrow and gardening tools will be of great use and we hope to see the competition rolled out again next year.
In the Moyle area, second prize was won by Mrs Mary Dunlop, from Coast Road in Cushendall.
In the Coleraine area first prize went to Miss Olive Freeman from Windyhall Park, second prize to Mrs Marion Moore in Castlerock, third place to Mr Robert and Mrs Marie Mc Cook for their garden at Windyhall Park and fourth place to Mr James and Mrs Winnie Kelly, of Temple Park.
In Ballymoney, first prize went to Dermot and Dymphna Smith from Cloughmills and second prize went to Mary Holmes from Ballymoney
Thanking everyone for taking part, the Housing Executive’s Area Manager for Causeway, Brendan Doherty, said: “Growing your own flowers is such an enjoyable part of life and it is wonderful when we see the interest that tenants have in their own patch. “
