In reponse to our story on the destruction of trees in Ballysally earlier this week, the site owners Benamara Properties have responded, stating that they will replant trees in the area if their planning application is successful.
Jamesy Hagan, managing director, Benamara Properties, owners of the Burn Road, Ballysally site in Coleraine said:
“We were unaware that the trees on the Ballysally site had been planted by local young people as part of community initiatives in recent years.
“The land was purchased by Benamara Properties from the Housing Executive in 2015. There was no tree preservation order in place and we were also not advised of any specific issues regarding the flora and fauna on the site. However, if our planning application to build homes on the site is successful, we will have plans for significant landscaping and tree planting.”
