Country star Cliff Ledger dies in Spain

A well known country star from Ballymoney has died.

Cliff Ledger passed away peacefully at his home in Spain on July 3.

Ledger was a well known entertainer and worked with many of Ireland’s most popular show bands, including the Walker Lewis Show Band, before he later formed his own group - Cliff Ledger and the Country Boys.

Cliff was famous not just in Ireland , but in the UK and in America.

He was awarded a gold disk for the sales of his first album ‘Kentucky in the Morning’ back in 1977.

Cliff’s family were part of the famous Duffy’s Circus that toured Ireland performing to huge crowds.

Eventually the family settled in Ballymoney where Cliff went to school, and was a keen member of the local cycling club.

Cliff was one of five children, he had three other brothers and a sister.

He was musical from a very young age and learned to play the guitar, he was often called ‘the singing cowboy’.

Speaking from her home in England, Cliff’s daughter Debbie told The Times: “He was an amazing father and husband, and loved by all who met him.

“He will be sadly missed by his wife Dolores and children Janice, Kimberly, myself Debbie, and Cliff junior, and all his grandchildren.

“He will never be forgotten by his loving family.”
