These timely actions are crucial to stopping the spread of coronavirus and ultimately saving lives in our communities.

Mayor Mark Fielding said: “Ongoing restrictions and the roll-out of the vaccine have had a positive impact but the risk of coronavirus remains with us and now is a time for renewed vigilance and adherence to the public health advice.

“If you’re displaying any symptoms, do the right thing immediately by isolating from others and getting tested. These actions will stop the spread and protect others, and we must all commit to playing our part.

“Don’t put yourself at risk by becoming complacent. Avoid any busy areas if you have to go out, keep your distance from others, wear a face covering where required and wash your hands well and often. We all must strengthen our resolve while remaining hopeful that there are better days ahead.”

Remember, the symptoms to look out for are a high temperature (this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back, you do not need to measure your temperature); OR a new, continuous cough (this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours. If you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual); OR a loss of or change in sense of smell or taste.

If you have any of these symptoms then you need to get tested.
