A man charged with the murder of his mother in Portstewart last summer has appeared before North Antrim Magistrates’ court via video link from Maghaberry Prison.
Alun Kinney Evans (32) is charged with the murder of Margo Evans at their Knockancor Drive home on June 4 last year.
Mrs Evans was a well known hairdresser and previously owned the Madame Margo salon near her home in Portstewart.
Evans also faces a second charge of being in possession of a class ‘B’ drug with intent to supply.
The 32-year-old had been a patient in a secure unit at Knockbracken Hospital in Belfast, however, he was moved to Maghaberry Prison in early December, when the Mental Health Order detaining him expired.
During Monday’s short hearing, a spokesperson for the PPS said three boxes of files had now been allocated to a senior prosecutor. Describing the case as a ‘complex matter’ the prosecutor said that on the next occasion a timeline could be provided to the court.
District Judge Des Perry adjourned the matter until February 23.
