A shop owner caught driving with excess alcohol has been told by a judge: “It is quite clear that you, alcohol and cars don’t mix”.
District Judge Peter King was speaking at Coleraine Magistrates Court last Monday when Darren Samuel Thomas White (30), of Moyarget Road, Ballycastle, pleaded guilty to the offence which was detected on a Saturday afternoon in March this year at Bushmills Road, Coleraine.
He had an alcohol breath reading of 65, with the legal limit being 35.
Defence solicitor Briege Martin said the defendant had consumed alcohol at his girlfriend’s house the night before and was still over the limit the next day.
Referring to a previous drink related incident the judge banned the defendant from the road for 18 months and fined him £350 and warned him if he comes back before him for a similar offence he will send him to prison.
