A local Irish dance school will be performing in front of 40,000 people later this week, at one of Spain’s biggest musical events.

The Dominic Graham Dance School will be in Ortigueria to peform at the world’s largest celtic music festival this Saturday, July 19.

After hours of practice, the local dancers will be sharing the stage with the world famous Chieftains, and Dance Director, Dominic Graham says that a collaboration between the band and the dancers is ‘very much on the cards’.

This is the fourth time the local girls will have made the journey to Spain.

Thirty six local dancers will perform a 60 minute show entitled ‘Back to Bregan’ which will include dancers of all ages, and a band of six musicians under the musical direction of Nick Hawryliw of the Red Hot Chilli Pipers.

Dominic told The Times: “This is the biggest outdoor show the school has ever produced in its long and illustrious history of performing, with a crowd of 40,000 people expected to watch this one off show.”

There’s no rest for the talented dancers, when they return to Northern Ireland next week they’re straight into rehearsals for their show ‘Duo’ at the Riverside Theatre, which will be on stage in September.

So what can audiences expect from this show?

“This year’s show is like two shows in one with all the usual originality, tradition and more that we come to expect from a Dominic Graham show.

“This year however will be a first, when the newly formed and highly successful DGS mammies will be performing as part of the show.

“Each year the mums are used to sitting proudly in the audience of assisting backstage but this year they are going to get their own much deserved taste of the limelight” said Dominic.”

The Coleraine Times featured ‘the mammys’ recently, and we can tell you that they are indeed a very talented bunch. They take their dancing seriously and no there’s no doubt that they will enhance this stage show!

‘Duo’ will run at the Riverside Theatre from Thursday, September 11th to Saturday, September 13 at 8pm. With a cast of over 70 dancers, DUO will show the very essence of what this school of dance is all about. Tickets (£10) are on sale now from the box office 703 123 123.
