Mrs Reid, the Head of Chemistry at Coleraine Academical Institution recently travelled with pupils Paul Moore and James Irwin to take part in the Science Olympiad Competition held in Dublin City University.

The boys were selected by Mrs Reid due to their exceptional GCSE and AS Level results.

Registration was followed by an insightful talk and tour of the Faculty of Chemistry in the University led by the highly regarded Dr Paraic James.

The School of Chemical Sciences is one of Ireland’s most progressive and highest achieving schools and boasts truly outstanding facilities housed within a highly modern and dynamic campus.

After the tour, the boys went to a lecture theatre where they sat a vigorous two-and-half hour examination alongside 125 competitors from top schools across Ireland. Paul and James performed admirably in the examination and produced extremely impressive results just missing out on a medal (of which there were only three awarded) by a mere two mark margin.
