Interns at B/E Aerospace in Kilkeel, where around a third of the world’s commercial aircraft seating is manufactured, have been giving pupils from Dominican College in Portstewart an unusual insight into the world of work.
The A level students joined other sixth formers from across Northern Ireland for ‘Inspire To Work’, a day-long familiarisation programme targeting young people with an interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths) subjects and a curiosity about high flying careers in aerospace.
The interns who are currently on Student or Graduate placements with the company, worked with Business in the Community’s ’Inspire to Aspire’ initiative to create a unique ‘show and tell’ careers experience, welcoming the sixth formers into the Kilkeel facility.
Keith Anderson, Business Unit Director, B/E Aerospace Kilkeel, which employs more than 800 people in various roles, was delighted to roll out the welcome mat for the visiting sixth formers.
He said:“I hope that the sixth formers from Dominican College were inspired by what they saw – their curiosity and willingness to learn certainly inspired us! It was great to have them with us.”
