EAST Derry SDLP Assembly Member John Dallat has called for a start date for a new campus for the Northern Regional College in Coleraine.
The Strategic Outline Case was approved in 2011 and a more detailed outline business case is currently being prepared.
However the timetable for completion and approval of this business case is not due until January 2013. A bid to finance the project was made in the Budget 2010 without success.
Mr Dallat told The Coleraine Times yesterday: “There has been no capital investment of any significance for more than 50 years.
“It really is a public disgrace that 14 years into the new Assembly not one brass penny has been identified for the relocation to a new campus for Coleraine College of Further Education.
“This is an area where it is essential that our young people are given every opportunity to equip themselves with all the skills that match industry and commerce.
“Coleraine Tech has a long and proud record of achievement over many years and should be rewarded with bricks on the ground.
“It is now almost 80 years since Coleraine Technical School was established in Union Street, Coleraine. As a former student of that college I believe it is high time a new campus was found for it in an area which is in keeping with a modern further education environment.””
