The incident happened in North Down but the animal loving fraternity throughout Northern Ireland has reacted angrily.

The little pups are no more than seven weeks old and USPCA Business Manager, Colleen Dowdall, said it was a “typical example” of irresponsible dog ownership.

“The pups are being cared for in the USPCA Animal Hospital and are doing well,” said Colleen.

“This is a typical example of irresponsible ownership.

“When the pups were brought in we were really concerned about them but through working with our vet we have been able to nurse them all back to full health. The pups are thriving now and we expect to re-home them in the near future,” she added.

The video of the pups was shared by the USPCA on Facebook and at the time of publishing it had been viewed more than 100,000 times.

In the social media post, the USPCA described the person responsible as a “heartless individual”.
