Coleraine’s Caring Caretaker Davy Boyle has vowed to continue his charity sit out again this year.
Brave Davy has been of ill health recently, but he told The Times this week that he WILL do his sit out this year.
Davy had been in hospital, but is now in the care of his wife Teresa, and he says he is getting stronger by the day.
“I will be doing my sit out as planned this year.
“I know a lot of people have been talking about it, and I just want to thank everyone who has sent their get well wishes.
“I will be reducing the hours that I am out in the town centre this year, but I will still be there to collect donations.”
Davy has been a familiar sight for festive shoppers in Coleraine for the past 11 years.
He dons five layers of clothing in a bid to stay warm and raise as much money as possible for his chosen charities.
Last year Davy raised his biggest about amount since he began his fundraising back in 2002 - he handed over a massive £47,000 to a list of charities last year.
So far this year Davy has raised £12,000, and he’s calling on the public’s help to boost his fundraising figure.
“My sit out is my main fundraiser, but I know this year I won’t be fit to stay out as long as I have in previous years.
“So I would ask Times readers to think of fundraising ideas for my charities.”
Davy admits being at home with his feet up is a hard task for him, but says he’s been boosted this week with a new arrival - his fourth grandson, little Tate Patrick Boyle.
Before the sit out, Davy will host a charity breakfast at the Lodge Hotel next Friday, November 15.
The breakfast will run from 7am - 9.30am.
Davy has asked that as many people as possible support the event and, if anyone wants to book a ticket, they should contact the Lodge Hotel or Davy in person on 07881916153.
