THE big Spring Clean is your chance to show litterbugs everywhere just how passionately you feel about having a cleaner, safer, greener place to live.

TIDY Northern Ireland is asking you to help give your area a makeover. The project is being supported by Coleraine Borough Council.

This week, a small army of volunteers will be gathering in various locations throughout the Borough to clean up roadsides, river banks, beaches and woodlands.

Jim Allen, Environmental Officer for Coleraine Borough Council has been overwhelmed by the record number of requests he has received from local businesses, community groups and individuals, he said; ‘We only have to step outside our front door to see cigarette butts stuck in the gutter, chewing gum blotting the landscape and all forms of plastic, paper and other unsightly litter lying in the street.

“Coleraine Borough Council is delighted to be supporting ‘The BIG Spring Clean’ and we are committed to helping local people tackle this issue. We all want to feel proud of where we live and benefit from a better, healthier, happier quality of life.”

Jim went on; “We are asking schools, businesses and youth and community groups to get involved by organising a local clean up operation. Council can help by supplying litter pickers, gloves and bags and will remove bags of rubbish collected after any event.”
