The Siansa group from Loreto College Coleraine, Tigh Tara, took part in the second round of the All Ireland Siansa competition, run by Gael Linn.

Organised with support from Foras na Gaeilge, RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta and Irish Music Magazine, Siansa provides a platform for talented teenage groups who aim to emulate groups such as Téada, Altan, Danú, Dervish etc.

Following an initial filtering through the submission of recordings, the Loreto group was among those selected for the workshop stage of the competition in Monaghan.

Musicians included Niamh Mooney (Year 8), Donal Close (Year 10), Cianan Mooney (Year 10), Fearghal Close (Year 11), Aoife Kelly (Year 12), Cariosa O’Harte (Year 12), Conor Pauling (Year 13) and Eimear Dillon (Year 14). The group is led by teacher Mrs Maeve Close.

The Tigh Tara group was commended on progressing to this stage of such a prestigious and competitive event by Loreto principal Michael James.

Meanwhile, Loreto pupils took part in a Success Skills workshop in conjunction with Young Enterprise Northern Ireland.

The workshop, led by Gail Hamilton of Young Enterprise Northern Ireland, aimed to help students to improve their employability skills.
