Man stabbed in altercation

Police in Coleraine are investigating an altercation outside a bar during which two males were injured.

A 27 year old man suffered a stab wound and a 25 year old man sustained a head injury during the incident in Waterside at around 1.20am on Sunday morning. Both were taken to hospital for treatment.

It’s believed their assailants made off in a black BMW.

A similar vehicle was later recovered by police in the Strand Road area. A number of other items including a knife have also been seized. Detectives are appealing for information and can be contacted at Coleraine CID by calling 0845 600 8000.

DUP councillor George Duddy has called on anyone with information to come forward: “This incident has to be condemned. It is frightening to think that there are knives in our community. We have to stand up and get the message out there that there are no place for knives in our society.”

DUP MLA Adrian McQuillan echoed councillor Duddy’s comments, and called on an increased police presence on the west side of Coleraine. “Police need to step up patrols ,we had this incident on Saturday night and damage to cars on Friday night. It is just not accpetable.”
