Life saving calls in Portrush are usually for the RNLI, but next week the emergency call is going out for blood donors.
Blood donors are also life savers and the next donation session will be at Portrush Town Hall next Tuesday, September 17.
Coxswain of the Portrush lifeboat, Des Austin, has joined the campaign to muster more donors for the event.
Speaking at the lifeboat station at Portrush Harbour Des said: “I have been making blood donations for more than thirty years and I would urge everyone to consider becoming a donor. It’s painless, it costs nothing and it only takes a short time to give your blood but the benefits for others can be enormous.”
President of the Rotary Club of Coleraine, Cliodhna Rae, said: “We are calling on everyone in the community to think about their own personal circumstances and make a positive choice to give blood if they possibly can.
“It really is the most precious gift.” Blood donation sessions at the Town Hall, Portrush are between 2.00-4.00pm and again from 5.15-8.00pm, Tuesday, September 17, 2013.
