POLICE in Coleraine have confirmed they are investigating an incident at Kilrea Orange Hall on July 10.

A PSNI spokesperson said that around 11:30pm police were called to the scene of reports that two youths were on the roof trying to erect a Tricolour flag.

One of the youths made off and the second, a 15 year old male, was arrested. He was interviewed by police and released on bail pending further enquiries.

Last week DUP MLA, Adrian McQuillan, hit out at the four hour operation at the New Row premises to get the youth down from the roof. He also claimed six police cars, a police van, an ambulance and two fire appliances attended the scene.

A police spokesperson said no comment could be made on “operational policing matters”.

However, he added: “Due to the nature of the incident and the potential for further disorder in the area, adequate resources were deployed to the scene.

“Assisted by Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Services, the matter was resolved and one male was arrested in relation to the incident.

“Police would like to thank the local community for their understanding during the incident.”
