Portrush Heritage Day was big success

Portrush Heritage Group’s second Heritage Day in the Ramada Hotel was well attended with organisers having plenty to record about past times in Portrush.

Those who attended brought photographs, documents and scrapbooks to be scanned, and artefacts to be photographed.

A display of military memorabilia by Michael Gilmore from Ballymoney vividly evoked the Second World War.

Oral recollections of past times in and around the Port were recorded, and people took the event as an opportunity to catch up with old friends.

Roe Butcher of ‘The Bookcase’ had a wide range of books on sale covering local history, including those of local historian Hugh McGrattan, who was available to sign his recently published book, ‘The Port on the Promontory’.

Seeing what the group was doing encouraged more people to sign up for membership and to ask to be kept up- to- date with future events.

A new Facebook site is being promoted to increase interaction between the Group and anyone interested in the rich, diverse Heritage of Portrush and area.

It is hoped to continue adding to the archives already established, and eventually to have somewhere to access and display them.
