PUP councillor Russell Watton says that tricolour flags erected at Pates Lane in Coleraine, should be removed as a ‘matter of ‘urgency.

He told The Times: “I have been contacted by all classes and creeds, from church-goers to pensioners and they cannot understand why the flags were erected in a mixed area.”

The Causeway Coast and Glens councillor claims that the PSNI stood back and watched as the perpetrators put the flags on lampposts the length of Pates Lane.

“The anger of locals in compounded by the decision of the Parades Commission to re route an Apprentice Boys’ feeder parade in Coleraine on Easter Monday.

“The PUP calls on the Parades Commission to permit this one off parade. We also call for the removal of the flags as a matter of urgency.”
