Coleraine Football Club has terminated the contract of player Aaron Canning following a ‘breach of the club’s Code of Conduct’.
The Limavady man was sentenced to 18-months probation and ordered to comply with a Sexual Offences Prevention Order, after pleading guilty to exposing himself in October last year.
The football club announced on Friday they were ‘working with the player, his family and legal representatives to deal with the matter internally, via the club’s disciplinary procedures’ and that ‘as a club there is no way we can condone behaviour like this’.
The defender was left out of Saturday’s 2-1 win over Portadown as club officials conducted their investigation into the matter.
On Monday afternoon an official statemnet released on to the club’s website confirmed the player’s contract had been terminated.
The statement said: “Player Aaron Canning has been found in breach of the Coleraine FC Code Of Conduct.
“As a result, the club has terminated the player’s contract with immediate effect.
“The player accepts and is in full agreement with the decision.
“Coleraine FC will make no further statement on the matter.”
