Dalriada boys more than made up for the disappointment of last year when both the U12 and the U13 team narrowly lost out in their respective league finals.
The Ballymoney boys more than made up for that by defeating Cross and Passion, Ballycastle, 5-1 at Rugby Avenue, Coleraine. This was their seventh straight win.
Cross and Passion, under the guidance of Coleraine FC manager, Oran Kearney, really gave a good account of themselves, but ultimately Dalriada controlled the game, with top performances from Peter Nevin Jonathon Kirk and Andy Stinson. The scorers were: Kirk McLaughlin 2, Ryan Smith 2 and Curtis Hanson 1.
Mr Kearney congratulated the winners saying: “It was a wonderful opportunity for this team to take part in a major final and they all gained something from the experience”
Dalriada Principal Mr Tom Skelton, commented:“I am very proud of the Dalriada boys and congratulated both teams on giving a good account of themselves on the day”
The large turnout of spectators watched as the Dalriada team captain, Curtis Hanson, received the McKinney Cup. On conclusion of events, football coaches at the school, Mr Ian Getty and Mr Paul Gaston said: “This victory is dedicated to our great friend and IFA Grassroots Development Officer, the late Wesley Gregg, who supported the school in so many ways before his untimely death earlier this year”.
COACHING MASTER CLASS
As a reward for their endeavours, the U12 team members will be invited in to school over the Christmas holidays for a coaching Master Class delivered by Kenny Shiels, the former Coleraine FC, Ballymena United FC and Kilmarnock FC manager. The U13 year team, who begin their league campaign in the New Year, will attend a similar event, delivered by Alfie Wylie, Linfield first team coach.
In his capacity as manager of the Northern Ireland Ladies team, Alfie will also coach a group of the girl footballers on the school 3G pitch at Dalriada. This will be a wonderful experience for both the boys and girls to work with two of the top coaches in the game, and reflects the opportunities on offer at the school
