Cliftonville collected a welcome three points against a 10-man Ballinamallard side on Saturday.

They made hard work of the win with the home side missing a penalty in the 78th minute.

It was the harsh sending off of Ballinamallard’s Liam Flatley which changed the game on just 26 minutes.

Six minutes later the Reds took the lead when a through ball found Darren Murray, who looked suspiciously offside, but the big strike raced on through to shoot past keeper James McGrath.

Ballinamallard fought back to level on the 46th minute when a corner was floated into the visitors box. Keeper Jason Mooney came to catch, but dropped the ball at the feet of Adam Lecky who made no mistake from 10 yards.

In the second half Cliftonville got what proved to be the winner on the 64th minute.

A ball down the right found substitute Chris Curran and his excellent cross, his first tough of the game, was stabbed home by the outstretched foot of defender Ryan McConnell.

In the 78th minute the Ferney Park side was awarded a penalty when Lecky was adjudged to have been fouled, but McCartney’s spot kick went wide of the post.

Cliftonville mangager Gerard Lyttle said,I think overall we deserved the three points. We didn’t play as well as we can. It was nerve wrecking at the end. It’s good to get a win under our belt.”

Ballinamallard manager Gavin Dykes was furious at the red card decision saying, “It was never a red card. The referee got it wrong. It changed the whole game.”
