Morris can't stop rampant Bannsiders

Unfortunately for the Glentoran stalwart it was to count for nothing as he finished up on the losing side.

Jamie McGonigle’s goal two minutes into the second half deservedly gave Coleraine all three points.

And but for an inspired display by Morris in the home goal the Bannsiders would have romped home.

“Thankfully we got our goal as we have been wasteful with a few chances today,” said Bannsiders boss Oran Kearney afterwards.

“And Elliott always seems to reserve his best performances for when he plays against us.

“Over the years I can count plenty of great saves that he’s produced against us, he showed today again why he’s one of the best in the league, three or four of his saves were top drawer.”

Morris’s boss Gary Haveron praised his keeper’s contribution, but was disappointed he had to play such a starring role.

“We needed to come out all guns blazing at the start of the second half, but instead we were still in the dressing room,” he said.

“They didn’t have to work overly hard for their goal, that left us chasing the game, really our goalkeeper has kept us in the game today.

“Elliott has probably been the most consistent goalkeeper of the last 14-15 years, he’s a Glentoran stalwart and he deserves the plaudits he receives.

“But he shouldn’t have to work as hard as that, he shouldn’t be under that amount of pressure and making so many saves.

“We’ve only got one recognised striker at the minute in Curtis Allen.

“Jonathan Smith is more of a number ten, but I don’t have Nacho Novo or Stephen O’Flynn available, and these are guys who we have brought in to score us goals.

“So we are limited in how we can play at the minute,” added Haveron.
