Positive start as Coleraine Ladies draw with Derry City

DERRY City were Coleraine Ladies first opponents as they kicked off their new season last Thursday night.

Coleraine were prepared for a difficult match, and that’s exactly what they got.

Both sides had chances on goal but it was the visitors who opened the scoring just before the break.

Coleraine came out determined to take something from the tie for the second spell.

Michelle Friel and Alison Nicholl controlled the midfield. Nicholl should have equalised, but quick reactions from the Derry keeper resulted in a Coleraine corner.

Forwards Dunn and Steen worked hard closing down the Derry City defence. Alison Nicholl saw her effort go over the bar and Steen had an effort saved.

The determination of the Coleraine side finally paid off when they were awarded a corner. Friel whipped in a fine ball which Nicole Kerr poked home to claim Coleraine’s first goal of the new season.

Coleraine played some good passing football as the tie concluded. The girls can proud of a fine performance to kick off the season.
