On Saturday 5th March 2016, well over three hundred athletes turned out for the annual SSE Airtricity 10 mile road race.
This is a popular event for those building towards longer distances.
As expected, the revised route proved popular with competitors – a loop into the flat Gransha Park grounds around 3 miles, replaces the hilly section close to the previous finish, and the new finish is now on the running track in St Columbs Park.
A good squad of Springwell runners attended this event, producing a fantastic set of individual results and a large number of PBs’!
First home for the club was the Andy Dowey in 34th Overall, in a cracking time of 01:05:41. Although this was not a personal PB, Andy was delighted with this result nonetheless, showing great form at this stage of the season!
Those that ran PBs’ were Gerard Mullan, Kevin McLean, Warren McIlmoyle, Kerrie McIlmoyle, Dee Boorman and Andrew Wilmot, enjoying the dividends of their tough winter training regimes. Well done all, excellent running!
As well as recording a PB, Kerrie also finished an impressive 9th Overall in the Ladies race and husband Warren has also been enjoying an excellent run of form over the past number of weeks, following on from a great 5k PB last weekend.
Congratulations also to relative running newcomers Dee Boorman, Andrew Wilmot, Julie Millican and Monica McCarthy who all ran very well on the day, showing continual progress and development, which is basically down to their dedication and commitment to their training programmes. Great running folks, keep up the hard work!
