LOCAL surfer ‘Long’ John McCurry picked up his fourth Irish title at the final Irish National Surf Tour event at Strandhill, Co. Sligo.

John won the longboard category using a combination of traditional and progressive longboarding after three previous successful wins one of which was the Portrush Open back in April.

This will give him a shot of confidence for the European surf championships being held in the surf capital Bundoran Co. Donegal on September 23rd til October 2nd.

It was a good event for the Causeway Coast Surf Club.

Along with McCurry Martin Kelly, Jamie Russell and Irish team manager Stevie Burns were also competing.

Stevie retained his masters Title while Martin finished a solid fourth up there with Ireland’s top bodyboarders.

Young gun Jamie Russell finished fourth in the event showing some solid manoeuvres on the way.

John meanwhile is having a ‘Funk Night Fundraiser’ in the Atlantic Bar/Lounge, Portrush supported by Anti Dote Soundsystem on Saturday 13 August from 8pm in order to fund the Euro’s, everyone welcome.
