Mini rugby at Coleraine Rugby Club gets underway again this September with a special registration event at the Sandel Lodge club.
The event will see fun activities for children alongside the more serious business of registration for new and returning players.
Registration will take place at the club in the special event between 6:00pm – 8:00pm on Friday, 4 September.
Announcing the event, Mini rugby chairman Jonny McCartney said: “If your child is moving to the next age group or thinking of trying rugby for the first time, come along to registration and enjoy a drink in the club house while the children play on the bouncy castles....and get the important registration completed.
“Training will commence the following day, Saturday, 5 September, from 9:30am-11:00am.”
Jonny went on to say: “Coleraine Mini Rugby Section, sponsored by McClartys Insurance, has over 150 children registered and we welcome all players, both boys and girls of all abilities, from keen novices to potential internationals.
“Our objective is to instill in our players confidence, determination and self-belief while developing agility, skills, fitness, teamwork and discipline both on and off the field.
“We aim to encourage players to perform to the best of their abilities, to be gracious in victory, magnanimous in defeat and respectful to the officials, the opposition and their teammates.”
The Mini Rugby section at Coleraine is an integral part of the rugby club and makes a full contribution to the club and wider Coleraine community.
Jonny said: “Our aim is to introduce the game to the children in a safe and supportive environment, so that they learn to enjoy the game, play it in the right team spirit and make friendships that will last a lifetime.
“Whilst we like to be competitive, we measure our success not in trophies won but in the number of children who return to the club season after season, eventually to progress to playing youth rugby and, hopefully, senior rugby at the club.
“We offer rugby from Under 6 to Under 12 age groups.
“At the Under 6 age group they start with fun rugby skill related games, introducing competitive touch rugby and at Under 7, contact is introduced in a controlled environment and then developed right the way through to playing a full contact game at Under 11 and Under 12.
“We have a fantastic group of highly qualified and committed coaches and would welcome anyone who would be interested in getting involved in helping with the minis section.
“If your child is returning for a new season or starting their rugby journey we look forward to seeing you at registration on Friday, 4 September.”
