Teen Gym at the Jim Watt Sports Centre has only been running for a short while, but already proved to be massive success.
These fully supervised gym sessions aim to introduce and teach teenagers the benefits of exercise and fitness training with the correct techniques, in a supervised, fun and safe environment.
The participants learn about the importance of posture, technique and core stabilisation while using the static weight machines and the cardio equipment such as the treadmill, cross-trainer and static bike.
The hourly session aimed at 12 to 16 years olds, takes place on a Monday and Thursday (4.30pm to 5.30pm).
Teens must be accompanied by parent or guardian the first time they attend so a pre-exercise medical questionnaire can be completed prior to training.
Each session is run under the close guidance of the centres development manager Richard Dennison said: “Teens are at risk from many health related problems, including Obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and diabetes.
“Among the many benefits of physical activity are higher levels of self-confidence and lower stress and anxiety levels.
“It’s very important for parents to encourage their children to lead an active lifestyle.”
The Teen Gym has memberships starting from just £2.60 per session, £12.00 per month or four months membership £36.00.
