The Foundation, which was set up following the tragic death of the Fermanagh senior hurler last year are hosting Big Buffet Night at the Millennium Centre in Shane’s home town of Loughgiel on Saturday 17th September.

The 27-year-old sportsman was killed on April 24, 2015 just a few miles from his home in Derrylin, Co Fermanagh.

Shane was an under-age hurling coach at St Patrick’s Lisbellaw GAA club and had just started his dream job as a hurling development coach for Cavan GAA before his untimely death.

Six months after the crash the Shane Mulholland Foundation was set up with a view to keeping the hurler’s memory alive.

“Driven by Shane’s determination, his zest for life and love for the game, his family decided to set up this Foundation in his name, to endeavour to continue to carry out the good work he had begun,” explained Karen McAuley, one of the organisers of the night.

“Whilst already a successful underage hurling coach with St. Patricks Lisbellaw, accompanied by a blossoming career as Hurling Development Administrator in Cavan, Shane’s plan to promote and develop the game further at underage level sadly was not to see fruition, however with the help of this Foundation, we hope to change that.

“The mission statement for the foundation includes the words ‘promote, participate, support and encourage’ and that is primarily what the foundation is all about - specifically the promotion of Gaelic games - hurling especially - at under-age level throughout the local communities.

“All proceeds of the Shane Mulholland Foundation will be used to promote and develop Gaelic Games at underage level with any surplus offered to local organisations and charities of choice.

“As well as the fundraising event on September 17th we will also be making a few presentations to young local players including kit bags and hoodies. We would also invite any clubs to come and speak with us to see if the foundation can help them out in any way.

“The foundation is a great way to honour Shane’s memory. He had so much yet to give, and if the foundation can in a small way carry on some of the good work Shane was doing, it will be worthwhile.

“I know he would have approved and he would be proud that so many people have and still are showing their support and respect for him through the foundation,” she added.
