Tamneyrankin dwellers deserve better: Loftus

An SDLP councillor has called for more resources to ensure that rural roads do not deteriorate further after recent flooding.

Councillor Roisin Loftus has been talking to Transport NI about the condition of the Tamneyrankin Road outside Swatragh, and has received an undertaking that remedial work will take place.

She said: “I understand that Transport NI has been under severe pressure due to cuts in their maintenance budget, but this has impacted disproportionately on rural roads and Tamneyrankin is but one example.

“The scenery in this part of the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough is majestic at any time of the year and it seems so unfair that local people and visitors alike have to contend with regular flooding on the road.

“It is also a serious hazard for school children who are put at risk constantly having to walk in the middle of the road to avoid being soaked.

“I have accepted an undertaking from Transport NI that this issue will be addressed and the road will be resurfaced. We must remove the one blight which causes so much inconvenience to people living in such a peaceful and beautiful part of the world if only they had a good road.”
