BOWLS: Larne see off CYM in IBA Senior Cup

Having got their league campaign on track with a 7-0 win over Mossley in midweek, Larne defeated Dublin's CYM in round two of the Irish Senior Cup on Saturday.

Andy Kyle’s rink started well to lead 11-1 after six ends before CYM reduced the deficit to two after 12. Kyle’s men increased their lead to six before CYM levelled with two to play. A single for Larne in the 20th put them back in the lead. In the fina; end, CYM held the shot before Kyle played two fantastic bowls to clinch his rink a 21-18 win.

On rink 4, Mark Petticrew made his senior debut, playing lead on Alan McLean’s rink. Larne were 13-4 down after nine, before two consecutive scores of two reduced their deficit to five. CYM increased their lead to take a 20-9 lead after 16. Larne needed a respond to keep the overall score close and cut CYM’s lead to seven shots.

Michael Murphy’s rink were level at 9-9 at one stage before counts of three, four and six over the next five ends saw them pull away to win 25-17. Jason Kerr’s rink produced a big finish scoring one, four and a three over the last three ends to win 22-19.
