Bird fair at Tannaghmore

THE biggest event of the year at Tannaghmore Gardens and Animal Farm is just around the corner and from the thousands of people who flock every year it is guaranteed to be a great day out!

Happening on Saturday, August 25, from 10am to 4pm, the annual Bird Fair is now in its 18th year and is a fun packed day of family activities for everyone to enjoy.

The variety of birds on show will be fascinating so look out for the white, black, blue and gold English Silkie hens, the ‘punk rocker’ Polish hens, fawn Indian Runner ducks and the fluffy Russian Sebastipol geese. You will also see Transylvanian Naked Neck hens, wart-faced Moscovey ducks, guinea fowl and turkeys plus lots more!

As well as the spectacular birds on show there will also be a wide variety of exciting displays including a Sheep Dog Display. This ever-popular sheep dog event showcases super smart dogs as they round up sheep, perform tricks and complete an obstacle course.

Be amazed at the chainsaw carving and the stick carving and get involved in some of the arts and crafts workshops to make something you can bring home and treasure.

For those who love their sports the Archery Display is new to the fair and sure to be a big hit as you watch the skill of the archers as they aim for the bullseye! And for those kids who need to blow off a bit of steam they can get involved in the football and kick-a-bout sessions, have a go at the climbing wall, head to the play park or get lost in the maze for a while!

For the animal lovers, you can’t miss out on the Rare Breeds Farm – see the piglets, kids, goats, lambs, cows, donkeys and ponies to name just a few. And remember these are special rare breeds that you won’t see in the countryside!

As well as all of this there will be blacksmiths, the barn museum, conservation information and of course the trade stalls.

With so much to do and see it is an unmissable event – and as it costs just £5 per car it is a bargain! So come along, join in the fun and give the kids a last summer day out before the homework kicks in again!
