Film screening for WW1 Sculpture Fund

The 2011 War Drama film “War Horse,” directed by Steven Spielberg is to hit the big screen in Ballymoney Town Hall on Wednesday 6th August, as a fundraising event for the town’s WWI Sculpture Fund.

Tickets £3, are available for the visitor information centre at the Town Hall.

The epic adventure, is a tale of loyalty, hope and tenacity set against a sweeping canvas of rural England and Europe during the First World War.

War Horse begins with the remarkable friendship between a horse named Joey and a young man called Albert, who tames and trains him.

When they are forcefully parted, the film follows the extraordinary journey of the horse as he moves through the war, changing and inspiring the lives of all those he meets-British cavalry, German soldiers, and a French farmer and his granddaughter-before the story reaches its emotional climax in the heart of No Man’s Land.

The First World War is experienced through the journey of this horse - an odyssey of joy and sorrow, passionate friendship and high adventure. WarHorse is one of the great stories of friendship and war.

A successful book, it was turned into a hugely successful international theatrical hit that is currently on Broadway. It now comes to screen in an epic adaptation by one of the great directors in film history.

The film was nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture, two Golden Globe Awards and five BAFTAs.

This is the second fundraising event organized by the WWI Sculpture Committee, following on a successful “Night at the Races” at the Royal British Legion Club.

Speaking at the announcement of the film fundraiser, Sculpture Fund Organiser Sammy McClements said: “As well as proceeds from our fundraising the fund is being boosted by donations from Council, businesses and individuals and a street collection.

“I am overwhelmed by the positive response and comments we have been getting for the project. I hope people will come along and support our film fundraising night on 6th August. It promises to be an enjoyable night out as well as lending support to our sculpture project.”

Any organization who wishes to make a donation to “WWI Sculpture Fund” can forward a contribution to the Fund c/o The Office of the Chief Executive at Council HQ, Riada House.
