Local bars take part in Great Ulster Pub Week

Five Lurgan pubs will be taking part this week in the Great Ulster Pub Week with a packed programme of events.

Reid’s Bar, The Cellar, Central Bar, The Vineyard and The Corner House will be hosting nine days and nights of buzz and excitement.

Starting tonight May 1 and running until May 9, the five bars will be part of the biggest pub centric multi-venue event seen in Northern Ireland.

Over 160 pubs from right across the north are signed up to be part of the exciting pub celebration, with hundreds of unique events showcasing great food, great entertainment and great craic set to take place.

From live music, magic, theatre productions, poetry readings and pub quizzes to arts & crafts workshops, film screenings and charity challenges, The Great Ulster Pub Week will offer a diverse array of events that’s sure to surprise and delight pubgoers.

Commenting on Armagh’s Great Ulster Pub Week activity, Colin Neill, CEO, Pubs of Ulster said: “We introduced The Great Ulster Pub Week as an opportunity for local pubs to create a buzz about their industry; and the pubs in Armagh have certainly taken this on board.

“These three events are just a taster of the ‘Great ‘entertainment Armagh pubs are running during The Great Ulster Pub Week, giving local people so many reasons to visit their local pub this May.”

Pubs of Ulster chairman, Mark Stewart added: “The Armagh publicans have put in a huge effort into showcasing their pubs during The Great Ulster Pub Week.

“I have no doubt that the fantastic events on offer will receive a lot of support from local residents and I hope that following this, the pubs may continue to make these events a regular feature and ensure our local pubs remain famous for their ‘Greatness’ far beyond The Great Ulster Pub Week.”

The Great Ulster Pub Week will kick off on Thursday 1st May 2014 with a World Record attempt to stage the world’s largest simultaneous multi-venue pub quiz in association with Downtown Radio in aid of Cash For Kids. The attempt, which will see registered Great Ulster Pub Week pubs across NI take part in the live pub quiz, will be broadcast on Downtown at 10pm on Thursday 1st May, and aims to beat the current record of 2,679 participants in 39 venues.
