Ballymena girl Brigid designs Olympic poster

BALLYMENA girl Brigid Killough from St Brigid’s Primary School is celebrating after being chosen as a winner of the Activ8 Eatwell Olympic Art Competition.

As the clock counts down to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, thousands of pupils from more than 40 schools entered the Sport Northern Ireland and Food Standards Agency competition and nine winners were eventually revealed.

As one of the best P7 Designs, Brigid’s artwork is now being exhibited on a large building drop at the House of Sport in Belfast.

Each winner received a £50 sports voucher and their school received a £100 sports voucher. All participating schools also won a free Activ8 Eatwell Sports Day pack.

Una Duncan, Sport Northern Ireland Board Member, commented: “We were delighted with the response to this latest Activ8 Eatwell programme with around 150 schools registering and over 22,000 children in all year groups participating. Driving increased participation in sport, especially with young people and particularly in the run up to the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games is a key objective for Sport Northern Ireland.

“The long-term benefits of this initiative are very exciting and it ensures that we create a legacy of participation in sport from childhood right through to adulthood. To combine it with healthy eating is an excellent opportunity for us to get these vital messages to children to keep them healthy in the long term.”
